Jim Hannink is a litigator. Jim has prevailed in litigations involving class actions, intellectual property, complex commercial and business transactions, fiduciary relationships, and embezzlement, among others. He has conducted jury trials, bench trials, arbitrations and mediations. Jim has successfully argued in federal district courts throughout the nation, and in state courts throughout California. He has taken and defended hundreds of depositions, including those of parties, witnesses, and experts. He has secured seizure orders, temporary restraining orders, and other extraordinary relief on behalf of clients.
Jim Hannink has served as a Judge Pro Tem for the San Diego Municipal Court. He is a member of the Litigation Section of the State Bar of California, and the San Diego County Bar Association. Jim is admitted to all federal trial courts in California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Jim Hannink received his B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Calvin College in 1984, his J.D. from the University of California, Davis, in 1987, and his LL.M. in Taxation summa cum laude from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2011. Jim spent over 20 years, predominately as a litigation partner, with DLA Piper, and two years with a smaller firm while pursuing his LL.M. degree, prior to joining Dostart Clapp & Coveney LLP in 2011.
